For a good organic raised bed should be available from 30 to 36 inches. The first 12 inches into the hole should be finished compost. The next 12 inches is a rich fertilizer last 6 to 8 inches if your topsoil. This allows you to grow root crops such as turnips and potatoes. Any other fibrous vegetables such as lettuce, spinach. collard all go for the best in this environment. They have little or no fertilizer, like manure and compost will be responsible for. This fund allows its roots not to patch level to stop. You need 36 inches before it reaches the ground. Be careful when spraying water when it comes to paving materials. This can lead to root rot. Again, this is why we recommend the depth of 36 cm.

It depends on what under the bed elevated (the land? Concrete), but should do deep somewhere in the area of one foot. If you like, root crops (carrots, potatoes, etc.) that are growing need more depth, simply use a container or something.

Good luck!

Eight inches is a good start if you want to grow potatoes or sweet potatoes. By building your raised bed with a material that can be used over time you can to a few dozen meters, but you want to cut to the side a little, to avoid overturning too. Realistically, the only reason for more than a foot rise in the interest of the patient.

The main reason for the construction of a bed that takes a stand, is that the work of weeding and tending a reasonable amount, something less than high. With regard to the occupation of that big picture, you can clean fill (soil with little organic matter in it) to a point one foot from the top, then in a foot of good soil, rich. I have never been the deep roots of a foot.
